THE KING’S MAIESTY’S
P O E M S

VVHen as the King came to his owne,

The people ceas'd their mourning tone,

And all the towers of Edinburghe towne

Did ring with joy, both vp and downe.

The ſtreets were hung with tapestrie,

The windows fill'd with each degree,

The wiſe, the graue, the young, the old,

Did all their faithfull hearts vnfold.

The Maie-pole was erected high,

With garlands deck't vnto the skie,

The conduit ran with claret wine,

A gift vnto the King diuine.

The conduit at the Croſs did flow with wine for three houres ſpace, to the great contentment of the people.
